As the result of two successful legal tenders, Birketts’ highly regarded social housing team, led by partner Jonathan Hulley, has been appointed to the panel for the Sovereign Housing Association (Sovereign) and the Platform Housing Group (PHG).
Following a flurry of exciting appointments over the last twelve months and an impressive ranking of Band 1 in East Anglia in the Chambers Guide 2021 and the Legal 500, Birketts’ social housing team is swiftly becoming the one-stop shop for social housing clients across the UK. These panel agreement appointments enable the firm to undertake social housing legal work nationwide and represent the culmination of ongoing team efforts to grow the practice beyond the region.
Founded in 1989, Sovereign is one of the top 10 largest housing associations in the country and is a main provider of affordable housing across the south and south-west of England. Sovereign has almost 60,000 homes in its stock including new build, conversions and regeneration schemes, across an area encompassing Berkshire, Hampshire, Oxfordshire, Gloucestershire, Dorset, Devon, Wiltshire, the West of England and the Isle of Wight. Birketts’ team has been appointed to Sovereign’s housing management legal panel for an initial three year period.
The team have also been appointed to PHG’s legal panel to provide assistance with property development, regeneration, planning and construction work. Solihull-based PHG is one of the largest housing associations in the Midlands, employing around 1,200 staff, serving over 120,000 clients and providing 45,000 homes across Herefordshire, Lincolnshire, Derbyshire and the Cotswolds.
Following the appointments Hulley, head of social housing at Birketts, commented: “We are grateful for the opportunity to work with two highly regarded social landlords seeking to make impactful change by investing in affordable homes, services and their communities. Social housing is a rapidly evolving landscape and we are proud to play our part in supporting Sovereign and PHG stay ahead of the curve.”
