Countryside, a leading  UK mixed-tenure developer specialising in placemaking and regeneration, has completed construction of its 100th home on the site of the former RAF Sealand base in Deeside, Flintshire.

Dutton Fields is a collection of 156 three and four-bedroom homes situated at the airfields site and is part of a wider regeneration scheme to provide new homes as well as a raft of retail and employment opportunities.

The land was originally a civilian airfield before it was taken over by the military in 1916 for training purposes. It was first known as RFC (Royal Flying Corps) Shotwick before being renamed RAF Sealand in 1924 and remained active until 2006.

Dutton Fields’ legacy has proved poignant for many Countryside buyers, including first time buyers Luke and his wife Chelsea, who discovered Luke’s grandad Tom worked at RAF Sealand until retirement in 1997. The couple, who purchased a three-bedroom Ashop home, didn’t realise the family connection until after they had purchased the home using the government-backed Help to Buy Wales: Equity Loan scheme.

Mark Hadfield, managing director, Merseyside and Cheshire West, Countryside, commented: “It’s with enormous pride that we have reached this important milestone in our creation of much-needed family homes at such a historic site. To be part of the area’s transformation is a real privilege but to also discover these family connections is a fitting legacy to the strategic importance of the land. With 75% of the homes now sold, we’re looking forward to handing over the keys to more buyers as we approach the end of the build programme.”

With over 60 years track record of collaborative working with partners in public and private sectors, Countryside delivers mixed tenure developments, including affordable homes, homes for the institutional private rental sector and homes for private sale. Operating across London, the North, the Midlands, the South West and the Home Counties, Countryside targets 60% of its developments to be on brownfield land with a mix of public and private land owners. Countryside is dedicated to increasing its use of Modern Methods of Construction, with a target of 50% of all homes to be built using our in-house manufacturing facilities by 2025.
