Braintree-based housing association Eastlight Community Homes is successfully delivering more than 100 new homes each year to communities across Essex and Suffolk.

The 12,500-home community gateway organisation formed in July 2020, with the aim of building the homes that members of its communities needed. By the end of 2022, it will have delivered a total of 298 homes, 22 of which are for social rent, 191 for affordable rent, and 85 for shared ownership.

Having set out to be a trailblazing organisation for the East of England, Eastlight is building larger developments, such as its 100-home scheme that is currently underway at the Severalls in Colchester, as well as smaller developments on disused land, such as its 34-home scheme at Spalding Close in Braintree, which transformed a former garage site.

The organisation is delivering homes in the local authority areas of Braintree, Chelmsford, Colchester, and Tendring in Essex, Babergh and Mid Suffolk, and East Suffolk. Emma Palmer Chief Executive of Eastlight Community Homes said: “It’s a very exciting time for Eastlight, not only because of the number of new homes we’re creating, but also the fact that we’re branching outside of Essex into new areas for our organisation. We’re delighted to be able to deliver the homes that make a real difference to individual households and whole communities.”

Eastlight Community Homes is a vibrant resident-led housing association. Together, they create affordable homes and great neighbourhoods that people are proud to live in. It has 12,500 homes in Essex and Suffolk and is planning to build 3,800 new affordable homes over the next five years.
