ENGIE’s Roundhill scheme in Newcastle is halfway home

A project to build 48 much-needed “affordable” homes in Newcastle by energy and regeneration specialist ENGIE has hit the half-way mark in development.

The £6 million Quarry Place development on Roundill Avenue, is on track for completion in early 2021 (main image).

Built on behalf of Home Group, it features two-, three and four-bedroom homes designated as either shared ownership or available for social rent through the housing association.

Work began on the site, which was formerly a block of flats, back in March 2019 and the development has been progressing at pace with 48 plots well on the way to being completed with houses in the second phase of development due to be completed in June/July.

Paul Young, ENGIE’s operations manager, said: “The Roundhill development is set to be a welcome addition to the stock of affordable housing in Newcastle with a range of homes to cater for a variety of needs and requirements.

“Thanks to close working with both Home Group, Newcastle City Council, and of course the local residents, we are on track to complete the project on time and with minimal disruption to our neighbours around the site whilst still delivering 48 high-quality homes.”

Throughout the process, ENGIE says it has been working closely with the local community to ensure disruption is kept as minimal as possible. In addition to regularly talking to residents, members of site team have regularly attended the Blakelaw Resident and Council meeting each month to provide updates on the project and “proactively deal” with issues as and when they arise.
