A Bradford housing association is “delighted” that one of its latest developments will feature a tribute to a long-serving board member and former council leader.

Ian Greenwood OBE passed away in November 2018 aged 68, only a few months after being elected ward councillor for Bolton and Undercliffe. He had previously served as a councillor for Little Horton ward for over 17 years.

Greenwood had also been a member of Incommunities’ group board for a number of years.

The housing provider is building 40 family sized homes for rent on a former residential site at Bolton Woods. Now a road leading into the development is to be named ‘Ian Greenwood Way’ in honour of the former Labour councillor, after the council’s Shipley area committee approved the road naming.

“I am delighted to see this development taking shape and welcome Bradford Council’s decision to name one of the roads onto the site in tribute to Ian,” said Geraldine Howley, Incommunities’ group chief executive.

“Ian was passionate about delivering good quality housing for everyone and served Incommunities, Bradford Council and the city’s communities with distinction. Our Bolton Woods development will be a fitting legacy to his service, and I look forward to new tenants moving into their smart new homes over the coming months.

The Bolton Woods phase two development, off Livingston Road, will be a mix of two- and three-bedroom homes using timber framed construction, with some built as three storey houses.

Each home will have its own electric charging point and individual parking spaces. They also feature fully fitted kitchens and bathrooms. Bird and bat boxes will be fitted to the properties to ensure local wildlife flourishes in the area.

Twenty-four homes for rent were completed at Bolton Woods in 2019 as part of phase one.

The £5.6 million development is being supported through Homes England’s Affordable Homes Programme and is due to be completed in the Summer.

Incommunities in-house development team are acting as the main contractor for the construction of the properties.

“We are looking forward to the completion of our latest affordable homes which will add to the exciting regeneration of the Bolton Woods area,” said Angela Perry, Incommunities’ assistant chief executive, asset management.

“The development will transform the site which previously housed six hard-to-let blocks of flats and create modern energy efficient accommodation people will be proud to call home.”
