A North West housing association has helped to house 25 former military personnel since 2018 by working with a veterans’ charity.
Jigsaw Group has been working in partnership with Walking With the Wounded (WWTW) to offer ex-service personnel vital support when integrating back into society and the economy after their service has ended.
It’s part of the Jigsaw’s commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant, the housing association says; a pledge to treat former service man and women and their families with respect and fairness.
Jigsaw’s lettings team have been taking direct referrals from WWTW on behalf of military personnel looking to re-integrate into communities. Having somewhere to live is integral to being able to support personnel moving forward after their service. Once they have found somewhere to live, the charity then offers help with issues around mental health, employment, up-skilling, welfare and family support.
“We are delighted to have supported 25 personnel who have served our country to find new homes as part of our ongoing commitment to assist those returning from service,” said Dean Wall, Jigsaw Group’s voids and lettings manager.
Gary Lamb, associate director and North West regional manager for WWTW, added: “We are very pleased to be working in collaboration with Jigsaw Homes. They have enabled the journey for those ex-military personnel who have been in need of housing to be able to find a safe place to live, which has enabled them to restart their own personal journeys. The relationship which has been developed has been seamless and one that is highly valued by us here at Walking With The Wounded.
“To assist the number of those that have served in Her Majesty’s Armed Forces over a short period of time is something that both parties are extremely proud of. It is a shining example of how by working together issues around the ex-military personnel can be addressed.”
