Leeds & Yorkshire Housing Association (LYHA) has handed over the keys to 12 new-build apartments for over-55s in time for Christmas.
The new homes, built by Redrow, are situated on the new Hawthorns estate in Whinmoor, Leeds, just off the Leeds outer ring road.
The 12 affordable homes are being managed by LYHA, which manages almost 1,600 homes across Yorkshire.
Joanna Chambers, director of assets and growth at LYHA, said: “Redrow approached LYHA when they were in the planning stages and we discussed the requirements for affordable homes in the area.
“We and Leeds City Council felt a scheme designated specifically for over 55s would suit people looking to downsize and help to free up larger homes for families that need them. I am excited now to see the completion of these attractive, new apartments and to be handing over the keys to the new residents.”
The 12 new homes comprise three one-bed and nine two-bed apartments with gardens, parking and access to green space with open countryside nearby. The ground-floor apartments also have walk-in showers while there is lift access to the first and second floors.
All the homes have been built to EPC B energy efficiency standards, while each flat has access to its own electric vehicle charging point and is close to local amenities.
The development took 15 months in total to complete after being slightly delayed due to the arrivla of the COVID-19 pandemic.
John Handley, managing director of Redrow Yorkshire, said: “It’s great news to hear that all 12 of the apartments are now occupied. These homes are high quality whilst also being affordable and are located within a brand new neighbourhood, where we have also built a variety of two, three and four-bedroom homes.
“Redrow always strives to create thriving communities for all ages and the fact that these apartments were available to single people/ couples over the age of 55 means that The Hawthorns offers specialist housing to people who want to be a part of a wider community.”
