The West Midlands housebuilders Living Space Housing have started building 39 new affordable homes at a 6.3-acre site in Telford, Shropshire.

The 39 homes, located off Majestic Way in the village of Aqueduct, will be made available for affordable rent by local housing association The Wrekin Housing Group.

The land has been acquired from Homes England with Telford & Wrekin Council managing the sale as part of its Land Deal, which enables the disposal of the council’s public land.

Solihull-based Living Space has secured full planning consent for the homes and will deliver the £7 million construction contract in full. The first of the new homes off Majestic Way will be ready to move into in 2022.

Steve Davies, managing director of Living Space, said: “This strategic site was first earmarked for residential development back in the 1980s. The opportunity was unlocked by Homes England and Telford & Wrekin Council last year and we are delighted to be working alongside The Wrekin Housing Group to deliver these much-needed affordable homes. Each stage of the construction programme will be carried out by our local supply chain, safeguarding and creating new employment opportunities.

“Majestic Way is our third development to get underway in Telford and we are actively seeking other immediate and longer-term development opportunities, with the funding in place to progress such deals.”

The Majestic Way development will comprise 19 two-bedroom houses, 18 three-bedroom houses and two two-bedroom bungalows, constructed in red brick.

All 39 homes will have designated parking space, while the scheme will also provide new public open space, a SuDS (sustainable drainage systems) attenuation feature and a new footpath.

Birmingham-based residential design specialists UMAA Architecture are the architects of the scheme for the Wrekin Housing Group, which provides 13,000 homes across the West Midlands.

Jane Kind, project manager for The Wrekin Housing Group, said: “We are delighted to be working with Living Space on this expansive, conveniently located residential scheme, which will make a difference to people’s lives by creating a new community of high-quality affordable homes for Telford.

“The first homes will be available for occupation next year and we have no doubt this will be a very popular addition to our portfolio as it is such a lovely setting with lots of open space.”

Living Space launched in 2019 and is currently building seven residential developments across middle England, with additional sites currently in the planning system.

The builders’ other live developments include 26 new homes on Stadium Way in central Telford for Accord Housing Association.
