NHF signs up to Women in Social Housing’s gender equality cause

THE issue of gender equality across the housing sector is expected to gain a boost now that the National Housing Federation (NHF) has joined Women in Social Housing (WISH).

Nicola Dibb, executive director of WISH, said the NHF is a perfect fit for the organisation.

“We are thrilled that the National Housing Federation has signed up to become a corporate member of WISH and we look forward to working together in our mission to address gender equality,” she added.

“With over 900 members it is in a strong position to help support WISH’s mission to promote the benefits of networking for women, encourage new talent and support existing talent to remain in the sector and help boost gender equality across housing and construction generally.

“We look forward to welcoming NHF members to our events.”

WISH is the only member-based network for women working across every discipline involved in the affordable housing and construction sectors, with nine groups across the country. It works to challenge stereotypes and barriers and encourage more women to choose housing and construction as a career. It also supports the progression of women already in the sector.

As a Corporate Plus Member of the WISH London region the NHF will be able to access events in all of WISH’s nine regions.

“The National Housing Federation is delighted to be a corporate member of Women in Social Housing (WISH),” said Kate Henderson, the NHF’s chief executive.

“Housing associations have a strong history of building good quality homes and inclusive communities for everyone. But we know we need to do much more to ensure the leadership of our organisations are as diverse as the communities we serve.

“Gender equality is vital for everyone, and we are proud to stand with WISH in doing everything we can to improve opportunities for women to become housing leaders.”
