Northstone starts work on debut scheme of 150 homes in Bolton

THE Northern-based placemaker and homebuilder Northstone has begun construction work on its first development in Bolton.

The Peel L&P subsidiary, which launched in October 2018, has started on groundwork, roads and sewers for the maiden development on Bolton Road in Westhoughton.

The development, now called Silkash, will feature 150 new energy-efficient homes made up of a mix of two, three and four-bedroom properties. It is also expected to create 160 construction jobs and apprenticeship opportunities.

Phil Wilson, Peel L&P’s executive director of strategic land and home building, said: “Northstone offers something different to a traditional housebuilder and our homes have been carefully designed to meet the needs of modern living with an emphasis on sustainability, design and efficiency.

“We’re excited to start on site at our first development and are looking forward to bringing our new-style homes to the market in Bolton while helping to meet the local demand for housing.”

Bolton Council first gave planning consent for the development, then called Roscoe’s, back in July 2019 after Northstone purchased the site from Jones Homes.

The homes will include smart living features such as giving owners the option to switch living and kitchen/dining areas to the front or back of the house.

Residents will also be able to reduce their energy bills by automating their heating and electricity, while the homes will also feature other energy-saving features.

Meanwhile, pedestrian-led streets with low traffic speeds, pocket parks and mature landscaping will aim to create a more neighbourly, community environment.

It is expected that the homes will be available for purchase from summer 2020 and ready for the first residents to move in by 2022.

Northstone have already developed plans for their second development, Keld, which will see 250 homes built at Trough Laithe in Barrowford.

The proposals for Keld will be sent to Pendle Council for them to make a planning decision soon.
