A new affordable housing development in Telford is well on its way to completion with the first roofs being fitted on its homes.
Living Space Housing are building 26 new homes on Stadium Way in Hadley for the West Bromwich-based Accord Housing Association.
The £3.6 million development is being built on a 1.3-acre brownfield site previously used as a camping and caravan centre.
When complete the site will feature a mix of 12 one- and two-bedroom apartments and 14 two-and three-bedroom houses, all available for affordable rent.
Sue Carpenter, senior regeneration officer at Accord Housing Association, said: “Accord works incredibly hard to find development opportunities in areas where there is high demand for affordable housing, such as Telford.
“We’re pleased to see these much needed, high quality, affordable homes for local people beginning to take shape. This new scheme will deliver an affordable option for families and individuals looking to rent, helping to meet local housing demands and create happy homes.”
Living Space Housing received planning consent from Telford and Wrekin Council to develop the 26 new homes late last year.
Residents at the new site will benefit from a leafy setting as mature specimen trees have been incorporated into the design of the scheme.
Homes England put £884,000 towards the scheme which is the result of partnership working between Accord and the local council.
Accord will gain access to the first portion of homes on site early next year, with the scheme set to be completed by the end of March 2021.
Paul Breen, commercial manager at Living Space Housing said: “Despite the unprecedented delays and setbacks brought on by the Coronavirus pandemic, work is progressing at pace at this conveniently-located development site.
“This is our first project with Accord Housing Association, and it was also our first development to get underway in Telford. Our team is working extremely hard to ensure all guidance regarding social distancing and hygiene is adhered to at all times.
“We are grateful for the support from our sub-contractors, consultants and the Accord team, which will enable these much-needed affordable homes to be delivered within the coming months.”
