Vistry Partnerships has acquired a former British Sugar site in Cambridgeshire to deliver up to 74 new affordable homes with a local housing association.

The developers are working with Peterborough-based social landlord Cross Keys Homes to convert British Sugar’s former headquarters on Oundle Road in Peterborough into new family homes and apartments.

All of the homes built as part of the £14 million scheme will be made available as affordable housing.

Greg Wood, Vistry Partnerships’ pre-construction director for East Midlands, said: “By working closely with Cross Keys Homes, we have created an ambitious plan for British Sugar’s former headquarters in Peterborough.

“Not only will our project accelerate the delivery of affordable homes in the area, but it will transform an important local landmark to benefit the community and surrounding area.”

In 2020, Cambridge and Peterborough Combined Authority confirmed it would part-fund the Oundle Road project in order to help deliver more affordable homes in the area.

Vistry and Cross Key Homes already have outline planning permission to deliver up to 74 homes at the site, located south-west of Peterborough town centre.

Once built, all of the homes will be managed by Cross Keys Homes, which manages around 10,000 homes in the local area.

Vistry and Cross Key Homes will soon submit a reserved matters planning application to Peterborough City Council to allow them to begin work on site.

Claire Higgins, chief executive of Cross Keys Homes, said: “We’re committed to providing quality, affordable homes because we know how important it is to have the security of a roof over your head.

“We’re delighted to be working with Vistry Partnerships to expand an existing community and create more opportunities for people to thrive in Peterborough.”
