Young Couple Keep Energy Costs Low in New-Build Home

As the cost of living continues to rise, one young couple are combating increasing energy bills after moving from a flat to a new build.

Young buyers, James Chapelhow and Olivia Redmond, have saved on energy bills since moving from an apartment into their dream three-bedroom home.

With figures from the Office for National Statistics suggesting 77% of adults are worried about the rising cost of living, affordable energy bills were a concern for the Merseyside couple, who wanted to buy their first home together to start a family. James (26), who previously lived in a flat with his brother, discovered that energy costs were just as affordable in his new home, nearly four times the size of his former apartment.

James and Olivia chose a home by five-star housebuilder Countryside, whose new build properties are 27% more energy efficient and use 20% less water than the national average. The low costs have allowed the couple to save on bills and put money aside for their growing family and one-year-old daughter, Minnie.

“Energy efficiency was a really important factor when we were choosing our first home. It’s been nice to hear from other friends and family that our bills are  probably less than other people are paying at the minute.”

“When moving into a three-bedroom house, I was really worried that my bills would go up massively and that it would not be as affordable.

“We’ve felt quite secure and quite happy with the way our bills have been going, which is quite unusual compared to what other people have been feeling and the stresses that they have.”

The couple reserved their Countryside home, through the housebuilder’s Assisted Move scheme, which allows buyers to sell their current home quickly and reserve their new home with Countryside, with estate agent costs included. After being on the market for just one day, James received an offer on his apartment and the couple moved into their new home in Merseyside.

“The cost of living crisis continues to be a real concern and we’re seeing more and more buyers with energy efficiency at the top of their house hunting checklists. James and Olivia’s experience is a great example of how our built-in energy-saving measures allow homeowners to feel secure about their bills, even in the current economic climate.

“Our Assisted Move scheme takes the stress out of buying and selling a home by making sure the process is managed by us from start to finish. We’re delighted that James, Olivia and Minnie are able to keep costs low while enjoying life as a family in their brand new home.”
